Commemorating international private investigators day 24/7
National and International Private Investigators Day is celebrated on July 24th, commemorating the birth year of Eugene Francois Vidocq, the very first Private Investigator, who founded the first known detective agency in 1833 (Le bureau des renseignments, or in translation, Office of Intelligence). This year's theme was "A valuable asset to the community since 1833." The purpose of celebrating this day is to advocate for and promote the importance and significance of Private Investigators and their continued contribution to society.
Our detective and security agency—the first detective agency in Slovenia—decided to join detectives and investigators around the world in celebrating this day.
We began our celebration at an escape room venue, where the entrance, a refreshing iced coffee, and the immersive challenge of the escape room experience set the tone for the day.
We continued with an educational walk around Ljubljana, stopping at several beautiful sights throughout the capital of Slovenia.
During our walk, we took in the late afternoon bustle on the Triple Bridge overlooking the Ljubljanica River, with Ljubljana Castle rising in the background.
We also paused at the Prešeren Statue, a monument dedicated to France Prešeren, the Slovene national poet. The statue faces the window where his beloved Julija Primic once lived, and above him sits a sculpture of a muse holding a laurel wreath.
Further along, we explored the unique microclimate behind the Franciscan Church, admired the façades of Secessionist Ljubljana, and even spotted a stylish pair of distinctive boots displayed in the city—a small local mystery inviting curious eyes to discover where they can be found.
We continued through Ljubljana’s Old Town, passing the Robba Fountain and noticing a charming detail: a decorative teapot displayed above the entrance to a tea shop.
As we walked along the Ljubljanica River embankments, we observed the boats cruising gently along the water. Later in the evening, we stopped at the riverbank to enjoy the wonderful evening view.
Our route included glimpses of the city’s landmarks: the riverside, the top of one of Ljubljana’s skyscrapers, an anchor displayed in Congress Square (a monument placed there in 1954 to symbolize victory over Italian expansionism and the unification of the Slovenian Littoral with the rest of Slovenia—the anchor once belonged to the ship Rex), and a miniature bronze model of Ljubljana.
We also remembered that in 1967, the famous detective novelist Agatha Christie visited Slovenia and stayed at the Hotel Lev.
At the end of the evening, a little refreshment was very welcome.
The evening passed in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, where, of course—as true detectives—we could not resist discussing detective work in Slovenia and abroad. We also decided that from now on, we will commemorate International Private Investigators Day every year and continue to promote the importance and significance of Private Investigators.
Yours sincerely,
The DVA team from sLOVEnia
